Translations of Laws into Kiswahili

Simplification and translation of laws is among the Law Reform Commission (LRCT) activities stipulated under the Law Reform Commission Act Cap. 171 [R.E 2002]. The LRCT is translating laws from English into Kiswahili, this activity commenced in 2008.
To date the LRCT has translated seven laws.

The main objective of translating laws is for easy understanding and usage by the members of public. Easy understanding of the law is an effective means for the administration of the law and the dispensation of justice since knowing your
rights begins with full understanding of the legal process.

The translated pieces of legislation contained hereunder are awaiting formal approval by the Chief Parliamentary Draftsman therefore the translated laws are unofficial drafts. Under financial year 2013/2014 the Commission is translating
the following laws;

  1. The mutual assistance in Criminal matters Act.
  2. The Probations of Offenders Act.
  3. The Legal Aid Criminal Proceedings Act, Cap 21.
  4. The Transfer of Prisoners Act
  5. The Extradition Act
